216 militants were killed in a multi-day clearance operation carried out by Pakistan’s army against terrorist elements in Balochistan province, according to a statement released by the army today (Thursday).
Pakistani newspaper Dhawan quoted the military as saying: The Army successfully completed Operation Lad-ul-Fitna-1 in Balochistan province, in which a series of coordinated and rapid operations were carried out based on accurate intelligence information to target Indian-backed terrorist elements seeking to destabilize peace and development by targeting innocent civilians, including women and children.
The newspaper said the military’s statement came in response to security forces’ response to a series of attacks in Balochistan (Saturday) that paralyzed parts of the troubled province for several days.
“These carefully orchestrated clashes and subsequent clearance operations resulted in the elimination of 216 terrorists, which led to a significant weakening of the terrorist network’s leadership, command and control structure, and operational capabilities,” the statement said.
Pakistan’s military sent air reinforcements and security forces used drones and helicopters to capture towns in Balochistan province from separatist rebels, Pakistani police said.
In recent days, rebels have killed 36 civilians, including women and children, and 22 members of security forces and law enforcement agencies, and the military has seized large quantities of weapons, ammunition, explosives and foreign equipment during operations.
