US President Donald Trump yesterday (Monday) acknowledged that the Supreme Court had given him greater power and influence as president than he expected, describing it as a “grave mistake”. This came amid comments on a recent court decision invalidating tariffs imposed by Trump during his term.
“We can use licenses to take strong action against foreign countries, especially those that have exploited our country for decades, but the court ruled that it is impossible to collect license fees, even though all licenses have fees. So why doesn’t the United States have that right?” Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social.
He added: “The court has approved all other definitions. These definitions can be used in a more powerful and impactful way than originally.”
President Trump said the Supreme Court was incompetent and had made grave and shameful mistakes, noting that the Supreme Court’s decisions could benefit countries like China in the context of birthright citizenship programs, and stressing that the Supreme Court could find a way to reach conclusions that help these countries.
President Trump concluded his speech by saying, “I want the courts to continue to make bad and destructive decisions for the future of our country, but I have a job to do: make America great again in the coming days.”
