DOHA – Qatari authorities announced on Tuesday that they had disbanded two units operating for Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and arrested 10 suspects on charges of espionage and sabotage.
A detailed surveillance and tracking operation resulted in the arrest of seven people tasked with gathering intelligence on critical and military infrastructure, while three others were responsible for sabotage operations and were trained in the use of drones, according to a statement carried by Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Authorities said the suspects were found in possession of communications and technical equipment, as well as the location and coordinates of sensitive facilities.
During interrogation, the detainees reportedly confessed to having ties to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and said they had been ordered to carry out espionage and subversion missions.
The National Security Agency called on citizens and residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
The announcement comes amid rising tensions in the region following a major attack on Iran by the United States and Israel and subsequent retaliatory strikes across the region.
