Qatar condemns Israeli airstrikes targeting Lebanon, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, affirmed in a telephone conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, in which he expressed his rejection of any violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
During the telephone conversation, the Emir and the Lebanese President reviewed developments in Lebanon, particularly in light of the current escalation and its impact on the country’s security and stability, as well as the wider region.
Qatar News Agency reported that Sheikh Tamim “condemned the Israeli airstrikes targeting Lebanon and stressed that he rejects any violations of sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.”
The two leaders also discussed regional and international efforts to de-escalate. The Emir reiterated Qatar’s firm support for Lebanon and its people, and emphasized Doha’s readiness to provide support and contribute to efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and promoting stability.
Maritime security
Separately, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran and stressed the need to urgently strengthen the ceasefire to prevent wider escalation in the region.
In a telephone conversation with Portugal’s Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel on Thursday, the Qatari Prime Minister stressed the importance of ensuring the security of maritime routes and safeguarding freedom of navigation and international trade in accordance with international law, in support of regional stability and global supply chains.
The two countries also reviewed the latest developments in the region following the announcement of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as a number of issues of mutual interest.
