The Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh (RCRC) has issued a public tender for the design and construction of a new metro station on Riyadh Metro Line 4 (Yellow Line) in preparation for the upcoming Expo 2030 venue.
The metro station is part of a broader effort to strengthen connections to future Expo sites and accommodate the anticipated influx of visitors.
According to the bid notice, interested parties have until February 26, 2026 to obtain documents and the deadline for submitting bids is May 3, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Bid proposals will open later on the same day.
Strategic addition to Riyadh Metro
The new station will be integrated into Line 4, also known as the Yellow Line, which forms an important east-west corridor within the Riyadh metro system. Line 4 runs from King Khalid International Airport in the north to King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), then traverses major residential and commercial districts, connecting major hubs.
Riyadh Metro is one of the world’s largest urban rail projects developed in a single phase, comprising six lines with a total length of approximately 176 km and 85 stations. This is at the heart of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy to modernize urban mobility, reduce dependence on private cars and reduce carbon emissions.
The addition of Expo-specific stations signals the government’s intention to further strengthen public transport capacity ahead of the global event, which is expected to attract millions of visitors during the Expo.
Preparations for Expo 2030 accelerate
Saudi Arabia has secured the right to host Expo 2030 in Riyadh following a decisive vote by the Bureau International de la Expo (BIE). The event is expected to significantly boost tourism, foreign investment and economic diversification, in line with the Kingdom’s broader transformation agenda.
Major infrastructure upgrades, including transport, hospitality and urban development, are already underway or in the planning stages to support this event.
