US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has promised to change the scale and level of military strikes against Iran.

“We will see a change in the scale and level of military attacks against Iran,” Rubio said in a statement to reporters, adding: “We respected the American laws of war, despite any considerations that they were unconstitutional.”

The US Secretary of State acknowledged that “Iran cannot obtain nuclear weapons,” and emphasized that 9,000 Americans have left the Middle East since the start of the war with Iran.

He noted that approximately 1,600 Americans are currently seeking removal assistance.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal cited US officials as saying that President Donald Trump is open to supporting groups in Iran that are ready to take up arms to overthrow the regime, an idea that could turn Iranian factions into a ground force backed by the US government.

The officials explained that the Kurds enjoy significant power along the Iraq-Iran border, adding that President Trump met (Sunday) with Iranian Kurdish leaders and is in contact with other local leaders who could benefit from Tehran’s weakness. Israel has also been bombing strongholds in western Iran, increasing speculation that it is paving the way for a Kurdish advance.

Officials indicated that President Trump has not yet made a final decision on the issue, including whether to provide weapons, training and intelligence support to groups opposed to the Iranian regime.

White House press secretary Carolyn Levitt said in a statement that “President Trump has spoken with many regional partners,” but did not specify his own goals.

Separately, the Wall Street Journal reported that US officials have said President Donald Trump is open to supporting groups inside Iran willing to take up arms to overthrow the regime. This is an idea that could turn Iranian factions into a ground force supported by the US government.

Officials indicated that President Trump has not yet made a final decision on the issue, including whether to provide weapons, training and intelligence support to Iranian rebels.

Meanwhile, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said in a statement that “President Trump is in discussions with multiple regional partners,” but did not explicitly confirm the purpose.
