LISBON – Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel signed an agreement on mutual exemption of entry visas for diplomatic and special passport holders in Lisbon on Tuesday.

The agreement was made within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Portugal. It aims to promote travel and communication between the two friendly countries, strengthen joint coordination and expand areas of cooperation.

Prince Faisal also held extensive talks with Paulo Rangel to discuss regional and international developments, including efforts to reduce tensions in the region. Leaders welcomed the agreement between Iran and the United States to cease military operations and begin detailed negotiations towards a durable solution, and stressed the importance of a diplomatic solution in maintaining regional security and stability.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan once again congratulated Portugal on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2027-2028, and wished Portugal success during its term in support of international peace and security.

The Minister also expressed appreciation for Portugal’s support for regional issues, including the formal recognition of a Palestinian state, support for a peaceful settlement, and efforts to realize a two-state solution.

He also praised Portugal for hosting the King Abdullah International Center for Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) in Lisbon, praising its role in promoting understanding and coexistence between peoples.

The Portuguese Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for the Saudi position and called for support for de-escalation and diplomatic efforts and a peaceful solution at regional and international levels. He confirmed Portugal’s keenness to continue coordination and collaboration with Saudi Arabia, in particular to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the economic, trade and investment fields.
