Everything looks promising for Saudi Arabia to soon become the world’s largest oil producer and exporter and the world’s largest natural gas exporter and exporter after the commissioning of the Jafra oil field in southeastern Saudi Arabia. The field is estimated to return at least $100 billion a year and about 1 million barrels of oil per day to Saudi Arabia.

Experts said bringing the Jafolla oil field online years before the expiry of Vision 2030, which aims to abandon dependence solely on oil revenue, would allow Saudi Arabia to stop producing 1 million barrels of oil per day for domestic use and use natural gas instead as fuel.

Saudi Aramco announced on Thursday the start of production at the Jafora oil field. It will eliminate 500,000 barrels of oil per day and replace it with natural gas to meet local energy needs.
