RIYADH — Cultural and entertainment events began across Saudi Arabia on Sunday to commemorate National Day, with large-scale events held in cities across the country to mark the anniversary.
Streets were decorated with greenery and traditional costumes were widely seen as the capital Riyadh and other cities became cultural and tourism destinations, drawing thousands of nationals, residents and tourists.
This year’s National Day coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, and the event takes on a national and nighttime character in the Ramadan atmosphere.

The celebrations emphasized Saudi Arabia’s historical roots and pride in the establishment of the country’s first state nearly three centuries ago.
Diriyah, considered the birthplace of the Saudi state, featured prominently in the celebrations. Activities organized by the Diriyah Gate Development Authority were held in the At-to-Life area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Events at At to Life included interactive history experiences, children’s workshops introducing the story of Diriyah, heritage storytelling sessions, and more.
Academic discussions focused on the legacy of Diriyah and the historical expansion of the Saudi state, alongside an Arabian horse show and guided tours tracing the role of leadership and community during the country’s founding.

In Riyadh, Qasr Al Hukum and Justice Square hosted national events such as the “Mihyal Khal Al Ujah” exhibition, which presents the stages of the kingdom’s founding through modern visual technology, under the supervision of the Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh.
Riyadh City has decorated its streets and highways with more than 5,000 light fixtures across major axes, plazas and public spaces to mark the occasion.
The city also organized activities in parks and squares to encourage community participation and increase national pride.
Celebrations were not limited to the capital. Events were held in 13 regions of the Kingdom as the Kingdom marks its fifth National Day since King Salman issued a royal decree declaring February 22nd as National Day every year.
A multi-day program in Jeddah included the decoration of roads, squares and parks, and outdoor activities including falconry, horse exhibitions, traditional crafts, children’s activities and henna art were held in Prince Majed Park on February 22.

In the Tabuk region, 23 cultural, national and cultural heritage events were held across cities and provinces with the participation of government and private organizations.
