Move over $ and € there is a new symbol in town.
With the Kingdom in the throes of preparing for Saudi Founding Day, we are ready to have a very white and green weekend.
As if our excitement was not already soaring, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has increased it tenfold as he revealed the official Saudi Arabian riyal symbol earlier today.
According to the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), the newly launched symbol is a historic move that will reinforce the Saudi currency’s identity.
The dramatic reveal was accompanied by a one and a half minute video that was posted on SAMA’s official YouTube page. The video highlights Saudi heritage, economy, and the future envisioned.
Saudi Arabian riyal Symbol 2025

The name of the national currency, “Riyal,” is shown in a design inspired by Arabic calligraphy on the Saudi riyal emblem, which reflects the Kingdom’s rich cultural legacy.
The exciting initiative promotes a sense of pride in the Kingdom and cultural cohesion while highlighting the Saudi riyal’s expanding global impact.
Additionally, Ayman Al-Sayari, the governor of SAMA, praised the cooperation of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Information that brought the vision to life.
The Saudi Arabian riyal symbol is the latest move in a series of initiatives that the Kingdom is taking in an effort to bring the ambitious Vision 2030 project to life.
In financial and business dealings both domestically and outside, the Saudi Arabian riyal symbol will be used.
The symbol will be rolled out slowly so keep your eyes peeled to catch a glimpse of the symbol in action.
