Following President Massoud Pezeshkian’s directive to start the nuclear negotiation process and a formal move to discuss the possibility of entering into negotiations with the United States within the framework limited to the nuclear file, Iran’s Fars Agency hinted at the possibility of reaching an agreement between Tehran and Washington on starting new negotiations.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency quoted sources as confirming that negotiations between Iran and the US could begin within the next few days with the participation of senior officials from both sides.

The location and time of the talks have not yet been determined, and these potential talks are likely to take place at the level of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, the people said.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Baghaei said on Monday that Iran is considering the details of various diplomatic channels to address tensions with the United States, adding that Iran hopes to have results within days.

“Pointing out that regional countries are intermediaries in exchanging messages and exchanging messages on various points, we are currently determining and considering the details of our respective diplomatic channels, and we hope to see results soon,” Baquay said.

“Iran always acts fairly and seriously in its diplomatic activities, but it never accepts ultimatums. Therefore, this assertion cannot be confirmed,” Baghai said at a press conference, responding to a question about President Trump’s remarks about setting deadlines for Iran.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed the importance of building trust in negotiations with the United States amid rising tensions. “Unfortunately, I have lost confidence in the United States as a negotiating partner,” he told CNN.

“We need to overcome this distrust,” he said in response to a question about how to start a meaningful negotiation process.

“Some friendly countries in the region” are “trying to build trust and prepare the ground for meaningful negotiations. We are working with them and exchanging messages,” Arakuchi told CNN. Mr. Arakuchi described the talks as “fruitful.”

Araqchi noted that Iran has learned many lessons from the recent war and warned that this war will be dire for everyone. He said he believes Iran is now well prepared, adding that readiness does not mean Iran wants war.
