8 hospitals in Kuwait and Lebanon placed on ‘terrorist’ list

Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a circular on Sunday stating that eight Lebanese hospitals have been listed as part of regulations related to the “fight against terrorism”.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek an explanation.

The country received Kuwait’s statement with “extreme surprise,” it said, adding that it had not been provided with “any information or notification from any Kuwaiti institutions regarding this matter.”

“The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the Lebanese Private Hospital Syndicate and are responsible for providing treatment and medical services to all Lebanese without exception,” the ministry statement said.

Describing the facility as an “integral part of the Lebanese health system,” it said it would contact the relevant authorities for clarification and “protect the Lebanese health system.”

“Kuwait has a number of joint projects with the ministry and is one of the most prominent countries that has supported Lebanon’s health system during the successive crises it has faced,” the newspaper noted.

He added that the move was “unprecedented and inconsistent with the usual approach of Gulf states.”
