The no-confidence motion received 267 out of 577 votes in the first round and 140 votes in the second round, falling short of the 289 votes needed to reject the spending clause in the finance bill and force the prime minister to resign.

The repeated failures of attempts to overthrow Recorno’s government pave the way for France to adopt a budget next month, with the bill returning from the Senate to Parliament for a final reading.
The government expects this year’s budget deficit to be 5% of GDP, compared to the original target of 4.7%.
