Pakistani authorities have revealed the identity of the gunman responsible for the Islamabad mosque attack, confirming that he is called Yasser Khan Yasser, lives in Peshawar, and was trained in Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s Geo News network reported on Saturday that sources close to the investigation reported today (Saturday) that the attacker, Khan, had been in Afghanistan for about five months before returning to Pakistan.

Investigators are looking into possible ties between the attacker and the Khorasan Provincial Group, a branch of ISIS active in Central and South Asia, and the investigation is still ongoing, investigators said. Yasser Khan had extremist leanings and is believed to have received military training while in Afghanistan.

Officials said efforts were underway to uncover the entire network behind the attack.

The terrorist group ISIS claimed responsibility for a bloody attack on a Shiite mosque in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. The adoption was done through an agency affiliated with the organization, which published a statement on Telegram about the application and a photo it said was of the suicide bomber.

At least 31 people were killed in an attack during Friday prayers in a suburb of Islamabad. About 170 other people were injured, authorities said.

Photos from the scene of the explosion showed a bloody body surrounded by broken glass and debris on the floor of the mosque as worshipers panicked.

Dozens of other injured people lay outside the mosque, and people were crying out for help.

On November 11, last year, a suicide bomber killed 12 people and injured 27 others in the capital, Islamabad, although no one claimed responsibility.
