Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that the country will begin eliminating tariffs on imports from all African countries starting May 1.
“The tariff-free agreement will definitely bring new opportunities for African development,” Xi Jinping said at the continental summit in Ethiopia during the African Union’s annual summit.
Exemption policy
China currently applies a policy of exempting imports from 33 African countries from tariffs, but last year the Chinese government announced its intention to extend the scope of this policy to all 53 diplomatic partners on the continent, and the tariff exemption will apply to all African countries from May 1.
