KUWAIT CITY – Kuwait is promoting its tourism sector with 30 ongoing projects aimed at boosting domestic tourism, expanding recreational activities and creating new cultural and entertainment destinations, official sources revealed.
Officials said these projects are being implemented and supervised by Kuwait City, the Ministry of Information, tourism project companies and other relevant authorities. These are part of a wider government strategy to diversify the national economy and attract tourists, in line with a new tourism map and national vision.
A wide range of initiatives are underway, including waterfronts, beaches, ruins, markets and cultural facilities. Major coastal projects include the 5-kilometre Al Jafra Corniche from Green Island to Masnat Al Shaab, Al Mesira Beach, Barajat Beach and Al Shuwaiq Beach. These developments aim to transform the coastline into a public space suitable for tourism, outdoor events, and family recreation.
Improving markets and ruins is also a priority. The projects include the restoration of Al Mubarakiya Market, Friday and Birds Market, Central Tent Market in Al Jafra Governorate, Red Palace Village and Heritage Village on Abdullah Al Ahmad Street. Reconstruction efforts are also underway in areas affected by the Al Mubarakiya fire. The plan aims to preserve Kuwait’s traditions while improving service infrastructure and organizational efficiency.
The Tourism Project Company’s entertainment project covers the third phase of Green Island, Al Kiran Park, Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City and Al Shaheed Park. Winter Wonderland Kuwait, now in its fourth season, spans over 129,000 square meters and features over 70 rides and attractions. Additional projects include the development of Keyland, Luna Park, Active Arena Funites and the Hessa District.
Cultural and educational initiatives complement the tourism strategy, including the Peace Palace Museum, the Kuwait National Museum, the Education, Culture and Entertainment Center on Abdullah Al Ahmad Street, as well as art and e-sports exhibitions, sports tournaments, seasonal events and concerts aimed at attracting a diverse audience.
Looking to the future, the tourism project company is planning two major projects worth approximately 500 million Kuwaiti dinars. One is Failaka Island and the other is the site of Entertainment City in the Doha region west of the capital. These projects are currently in the preparation and qualification stage.
The official stressed that the strategy aims to move Kuwait’s tourism development from individual projects to an integrated system that combines entertainment, culture, environment and creative economy. The plan also aims to streamline visitor admission and leverage private sector capacity in the development and operation of tourism and entertainment facilities.
