US President Donald Trump has announced that India will buy oil from Venezuela instead of oil from Iran.
“We have already reached an agreement on this issue or the idea of an agreement,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One on his way from Washington to Florida for his vacation.
President Trump’s statement came after the United States informed Delhi that it may soon resume purchasing Venezuelan crude oil to offset Russian oil imports.
Great value
President Trump also mentioned the possibility of China reaching an agreement with the United States to purchase oil from Venezuela.
He did not provide further details, but added: “China is welcoming and we will have a great deal on oil.” India does not import large quantities of Iranian crude due to U.S. sanctions, but it has become a major buyer of Russian crude since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine triggered Western sanctions against Russia and led to a drop in prices.
