The death toll from last weekend’s landslides in Indonesia’s West Java province has risen to 50, with 33 still missing.
Indonesian police in the province reported today that the Disaster Victim Identification Team had received 50 bodies from the collapse site in the West Bandung area, after additional recovery operations by the joint search and rescue team, adding that 34 victims had been identified.
Four Indonesian navy members were among those confirmed dead after a hill collapsed early Saturday, sweeping away tons of mud and debris over a village, the Indonesian navy said.
Indonesian authorities said search and rescue operations involving military, police and civilian volunteers faced obstacles due to dangerous conditions, forcing teams to temporarily suspend operations to ensure safety.
