Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 67 rapid transport improvement measures across the emirate in 2025. This includes 46 improvements to major highways and residential areas, 12 improvements to school districts, and 9 improvements to development areas.

This achievement forms part of a comprehensive RTA strategy aimed at optimizing the efficiency of the road network, improving traffic flow and increasing safety for all road users.

RTA is preparing to implement more than 45 additional transportation improvements by 2026. This includes widening and improving major intersections and development areas, improving entrances and exits to residential and commercial areas, and providing more rapid transit solutions in school districts.

This initiative reflects RTA’s commitment to the leadership’s vision of sustainable infrastructure development, supporting mobility efficiency, reducing travel times and traffic congestion, and strengthening connectivity between housing, education and development areas, while contributing to improving the quality of life across Dubai.

The measures implemented in 2025 have delivered tangible results, such as improved traffic flow and road network efficiency, reducing travel times by up to 45 percent in improved areas and increasing vehicle capacity on some roads by up to 33 percent.

Key areas that benefited from improvements include Al Warqaa, Al Barsha South, Nad Al Hamar, and Al Ras, as well as Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Meydan Street, Emirates Road towards Sharjah, It includes major roads such as Umm Al Sheikh Street, Al Wasl Street, Ras Al Khor Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and Al Manara Street.

The most notable works include widening Sheikh Zayed Road from two lanes to Al Meydan Road at the entrance to Al Khawaneej from two to three lanes, increasing the capacity of Al Meydan Bridge from three to four lanes, and widening the exit to provide a connection between the surface road and the bridge. Additional improvements at the intersection of Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street have increased vehicle capacity by 50 percent and reduced waiting times by more than 30 percent.

Also during the year, RTA implemented 12 transportation improvement initiatives serving more than 30 schools, focused on improving transportation operations and safety within the district. Key locations included the complex schools of Al Warqa First, Mizar First, Al Qusais, Al Garhoud, Al Safa 1, Mizar 4, and Al Barsha South.

The improvements included dedicated parking, upgraded entry/exit points and traffic calming measures, which helped reduce congestion, smoothed traffic flow and enhanced road safety around the school.
