Egyptian authorities have announced that they have successfully recaptured fugitive businessman Amir al-Hilali, known in the media as “The Car Restorer”, in parallel with delivering a strict judicial sentence in the e-extortion case.

International cooperation puts an end to flight

Within the framework of implementing the final judicial judgment, and under the direct direction of the Prosecutor General, the relevant authorities could prosecute defendants abroad through the International Judicial Cooperation Mechanism. The International Cooperation Department of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, continuing to coordinate with relevant foreign authorities, has prepared an international arrest warrant for Al-Hilali and submitted a formal request for his extradition through approved legal channels.

As a result of these efforts, the recovery operation in cooperation with the Egyptian Interpol was successful and the suspects were handed over to the Egyptian authorities and handed over to the competent public prosecutor’s office for necessary legal action.

15 years imprisonment

In another judicial situation, the Assiut Criminal Court Third Circuit sentenced an unemployed man convicted in an e-extortion case of abusing social media sites to lure citizens and threaten them financially with 15 years of aggravated imprisonment.

fake account

The merits of the case revealed that the defendant created a fake account on Facebook under the name “Sheikh Amira of Egypt” and claimed to have the ability to heal with the Holy Quran and remove magic, and took advantage of the psychological needs and simplicity of some victims to gain their trust and encourage them to communicate with him.

crime thread

The facts of Al-Badari Felony Case No. 6337 of 2024 are due to the fact that the Directorate General of Information Technology of the Ministry of Interior received several reports from citizens who confirmed that they received threats after communicating with fake accounts. Investigation revealed that the defendant asked the victims to send them personal photos and threatened to publish them on social media sites in exchange for money.

arrest a suspect

An investigation by security authorities led by Captain Karim Amr of the Accounting and Information Technology Crime Bureau confirmed the accuracy of the facts contained in the report. After technical testing and tracing, a 22-year-old defendant named Mahmoud EM, resident of Al Nawara village, Al Badari Center, Assiut Governorate, was identified.

Investigation revealed that the defendant had directly threatened one of the victims in exchange for a large sum of money before security authorities were able to successfully arrest him. When confronted with the digital evidence, he admitted to committing the cyber blackmail crime he was alleged to have committed and was referred to the criminal court, where he was given a harsh sentence.
